Emily is a multi-instrumentalist who recently graduated from the University of Utah with a Classical Guitar Performance degree and in 2018 begun teaching courses at Westminster College. Emily has played guitar for 13 years, ukulele for 5 years, piano for about 11 years, and drum set for 10 years, primarily learning from Mike. Starting around 2004, she was involved with the youth percussion ensemble at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. She started taking lessons from Mike in 2008 and continued playing percussion throughout high school in the school’s percussion ensemble, of which she was Vice President her senior year.
Since starting her teaching career in 2014, Emily has had the opportunity to teach guitar, ukulele, and dulcimer in one-on-one and group settings both in private studios and children’s vacation bible school summer camps and is excited to be adding drum instruction to her repertoire. Emily has already gained a reputation as the "favorite" drum teacher among her students.
Her music performance career has been a part of her life since she was a young girl. What began as playing music in church services as a child has since escalated to concert band performances, coffee shop and restaurant gigs, talent shows, more than 10 classical guitar recitals, 11 musicals (both in community theater and with professional theater companies, incorporating a wide variety of music genres, adding up to over 110 performances in all), and two solo senior classical guitar recitals, one at the University of Utah and another for her extended family in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is also currently one of two primary drummers who perform with the worship team every Sunday at Redeeming Life Church.
Emily loves sharing her love of music with all of her students, which makes her passing on her talent, effortless!
