Devin

MEET DEVIN

Devin began playing drums, along side piano, at the age of 10. Never being able to sit still, drums seemed to be the perfect fit for him. Mike Dale shaped Devin’s interest and craft for the instrument from the earliest stages in his playing and kept him interested in the instrument every single week. Starting out, Devin was primarily focused on Classic Rock, Prog Rock, Punk, and some Metal but throughout his development he has immersed his practicing and interests in primarily Jazz which has lead to a very well rounded and adaptive style of playing. Because of this, Devin is one of the top call drummers in the Salt Lake valley where he plays professionally multiple times a week.

He has recently earned his Bachelor’s of Music from Snow College where he studied Jazz, Commercial Music, Sound Engineering, World Music, and Composition. During his time there he was section leader for the Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, and Wind Ensemble all while performing and rehearsing with many other chamber ensembles. He was also the Musical Director for the incredible Commercial Music Ensemble. Through Snow’s amazing connections to New York and the Juilliard School of Music, Devin was able to study with DW artist and former Director of Jazz Studies at the Juilliard School of Music, Carl Allen, which is one of the main reasons Devin has been set apart from many other drummers in Utah.

Though music is Devin’s career, he still finds time to have fun here in Utah. He is an avid Rock Climber who has had several (5.13) ascents and recently made an ascent of Zion’s famous Moonlight Buttress (5.12d). A proud 1,200ft rock face with nothing but a small crack to put your fingers and the tips of your toes in to pull yourself up. Trail Running and Yoga are other ways Devin finds ways to stay physically and mentally healthy. Devin’s passion for drums specifically and music in general has only been growing, in what seems, an exponential manor. He is always striving to be the best drummer/musician/human he can be while strongly avoiding complacency. He believes there is always something to learn from anyone at anytime and that, though he is not in school anymore, he will remain a student the rest of his life.

Devin has already created an impressive teaching reputation in the Salt Lake area, many students line up to learn from him, not only for his love of percussion, but for his teaching and mentoring abilities!
